CoD4 Sniping Locations Guide

Guide by: Feonian - I'm doing a guide on the sniping locations on each map. I snipe in practically every level, and I've tried many different spots. I'll will show you these different spots, post screen shots of what you can see out the window along with screen shots of where you should place the claymores. Finally, I will write a little bit about the spot and my thoughts on it, such as when and how to use it.

I have taken the high resolution images on the site, and drawn on them and labeled each location. This way, you can get a general idea of my thought on the locations (Good, bad, situational) and which area you're going to be sniping towards. Here is the key I will be using for each map. I may switch out colors if they blend in too well. I will state this before doing the level if this problem arises.

KEY:
Rounded off rectangles indicate sniping spots.
Rectangles with sharp edges indicate that from one spot, you'll be sniping everything within the rectangle.
Yellow lines indicate where you'll be sniping from a given spot.
Blue rectangles are spots that I consider to be very good.
Yellow rectangles are spots that I consider to be good in the right situation.
Red rectangles are spots I consider to be bad. They are either too well known, or have no cover…or both. You can still snipe from them, but don't choose red if you've got an option.
I have lettered a few locations on some maps, which are NOT sniping locations, but are worthy of discussing and are usually valuable target areas.
Finally, I have numbered each location. For each level, I will have a section of text and will explain my thoughts on each numbered location.

If you find any grammatical errors, poor quality pictures, locations that I missed etc., please inform me of it.

MAPS DONE SO FAR: All of them. ORDER THEY WERE COMPLETED IN:
Overgrown, Backlot, Vacant, Killhouse, Crash, Bog, Wetwork, Shipment, Strike, Downpour, Crossfire, Chinatown, Ambush, Broadcast, Showdown, Creek, Bloc, Countdown, District, Pipeline.

NOTE: I HAVE MULTIPLE MAPS UP, SO IF YOU WANT A SPECIFIC ONE, USE CONTROL F TO FIND IT.

OVERGROWN: Overgrown is a level where it seems everyone brings out their sniper class for a little training. Because of this, you've got a high risk of being counter-sniped while picking off people. To counter-act this, you have to avoid the well-known spots even more than usual and seek out the more subtle, less known spots. The spots I prefer have you shooting across the map, with very little showing. Since they are not always used, and since very little sticks out, it's unlikely that you'll be counter-sniped here.

Onto the spots:
#1: This is my favorite spot on overgrown for a few reasons. First, it gives you a view of anyone peeking out the windows of the main building below spot 5 (pictures will explain better), while you are tough to see. Through another window, you can look across the map and get a great view, again while you are barely visible, of spot 6. You honestly can't see a whole lot of the level, but what you can see gets enough traffic to get a helicopter. Additionally, this location only has one way into it, so claymores do a great job of guarding it.

#2: This is the open part of the house, on the first story below location one. I personally find this to be a horrible spot to snipe from, for many reasons. First, it's very well known, and people always look for snipers there. Second, once somebody finds you, which they will, you have no cover since it's basically blown open with very few walls left. Finally, not only does it have two entrances, but claymores don't do much because they can knife you before the claymore goes off. Nonetheless, I will still post claymore pictures and show you what view you get- which isn't much more than location 1.

#3: This location is generally used to counter-snipe against one, but location #1 has many advantages. First, this spot is completely open, so you have no cover once your head pops out the window/hole. Second, they've got a mounted machine gun, so even if you start to run, you'll be dead soon enough. Third, they actually do have cover, so even without the machine gun, they'd be harder to hit and likely win. Finally, this location has two entrances, so your claymores don't go as far.

#4: This is another excellent sniping spot. If you noticed, I only circled a part of the barn not the whole thing, this is because most of it is bad for sniping. However, there are two little windows in it that provide an exceptional view of the field in front of you while being tough to see.

#5: #5 refers not to the building itself, but the roof. On the roof, you've got an incredible view of the level, but everyone else also can see you with ease. Due to this, the roof is very situational. Never go up here when the enemy is fighting in front of the barn- it‘s just too close.  I like to go up there when my team has control of the area around the house and the enemy team is struggling by the gas station. When the enemies are this far away, you don't need claymores, so I recommend just saving them for when you want to move. If you feel you need claymores though, I will show you where to put them.

View from the spot:

#6: This spot is inside the building, not on the roof incase you were curious. It is fairly well known, but it's got excellent counter sniping on locations 1 and 2. While it is usually checked by snipers, it is very possible to have only a small portion of your body sticking out, which may allow you to not be seen. It is only ranked as situational. I only use it for counter sniping if I'm having trouble with someone in one or two. You will only see enemy snipers using this location, so don't stick around too long, because they'll be back, and they'll know exactly where you are.

About the roof: It is possible and rather easy to get here, but it is a horrible spot to snipe. From my screenshot, you can see that I don't have much more a view than from the window. Also, notice how I am on top of a flat roof with no cover at all. I am very easy to spot and find- especially from spot #1. I will not show you how to get here because it's not going to be a useful spot and I believe showing glitches is disallowed on C4C.

#7: This area is mainly to get a view at the barn, or the building below location 5. Often times snipers will go prone in the grass here or duck behind a tree as they pick off people coming out of the barn. When using this spot, be sure not to move and you will blend right in.

Claymore Placement Pictures: This is another place where claymores are optional. You've got a huge field of view and frankly two claymores can't stop someone from getting to you. What I'd do here is place them right outside buildings that the enemy may use for advancing closer. Give them a surprise when they pop out.

#8: This is another well known area, and often a lot of sniping occurs between here, location #2, and the bridge next to location #2. Since this is well known, enemy players will definitely check this spot for snipers. Also, if you are spotted, the tin walls are going to do anything to stop an M40 round from killing you. This is a bad sniper spot for that reason, and the fact that you are out in the open. Because you are in the open, claymores here are optional and should not be relied upon.

BACKLOT: Backlot is a rather small map. It has a lot of buildings to camp in, but since there is little space in between them, most people go with a rushing class, sprinting from building to building. You will generally find this map with almost all rushers running around, and 3-4 snipers will be battling it out between locations 2 and 5. In a standard game, I will try to avoid using locations 2 and 5 if I can and favor ones which can easily kill rushers, but also have a view of 2 and 5 if the battle centers in those areas.

The following is a link to the full-size map with labels

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BacklotLocations.jpg

Onto the spots:
#1: This is my favorite spot on Backlot to snipe. First, it has only one way up, so your claymores go twice as far. Second, you've got a great view to grab any rushers, but you can also take out snipers causing your team any trouble. You got a wonderful view of the space in between locations 2 and 4 and you will be able to pick off many rushers coming through here. If your team is having sniper trouble, you can see location 5 very well, and also part of location 2.

Claymore Placement Pictures: https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BacklotLocation1Claymore1.jpg (It looks obvious, but this one will always kill)

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BacklotLocation1View2.jpg

#2: This location is always locked in a constant sniper battle with location 5. I generally don't like fighting other snipers endlessly. If you beat them once, they'll generally come back again from a different angle, very mad. They just get very resourceful after a while and neither of you do very well in the match. I only use this location when enemies are either rushing up the alleyway to the left of locations 5 and 4 or when there is a fight going on at 5 and the snipers are distracted. This area of very open unless you go prone, so it's hard to get kill-streaks going here if the conditions aren't right.

View from the spot: https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BacklotLocation2View.jpg

#3: First, I'll talk about the interior of the building, then the roof. This building has great views of locations 1,2,4 and 5. It also has good sized windows, so not a whole lot can stick out. However, it's smack in the center of the map, so there are always enemies near it and fighting around it. If they know you're there, it's very simple and easy to walk up to it and chuck a grenade in- sniper no more. Or they may wander up and die from the claymore, then get to the grenade next life. For this reason, I'd only use this building as an extra vantage point. Use it to kill those snipers you can't get from other angles, and then leave fairly promptly. Never use it for too long.

Now, the roof. Frankly, it's a horrible sniping place. First of all, when you get up there, you can't see anymore than you could from another spot, except on the ladder side, where you get a pretty good view. However, I don't think it's a good idea to climb a ladder in plain view with your back to a bunch of enemies. You'd be dead before you got up. For some reason, whenever I go up there, the enemies feel like I'm a huge threat. So, a good majority of the enemy team is trying to shoot you and chucking grenades up there. And even if you're prone in the middle, they can still jump and shoot you dead, from numerous locations. I will not do claymores or views for the roof, because it's not a recommended spot by any means.

WARNING, beware of enemies coming in through this window. It happens quite a bit and is a popular way to enter.
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BacklotLocation3Warning.jpg

#4: This is quite a poor sniping spot, although at first glance it seems ok. Because it has windows everywhere, you can be seen at any given time from multiple locations, meaning you'll never know where they'll shoot from next. And, once you're spotted, those tins walls are going to stop anything. It's also in the middle of the map, and thus very susceptible to grenade throws as well. Additionally, you can see about the same as you can with location three, but you are much more in the open and just less defended and safe as a whole. I do not recommend using this spot if you've got another option.

#5: It seems as though everyone believes this is the best camping spot in the map. At the start of the match, most people rush right here, throwing grenades and firing guns. Some games it feels like all the fighting is here as though it was king of the hill for the construction site.

If this erupts, snag another spot and have fun dominating as everyone blindly runs into the building, and into your scope. Do not be the sniper who continually dies working his way upstairs and getting set-up. This building is generally very contested, with power being switched from team to team through the match's duration.

However, if the fighting is elsewhere, then feel free to grab this spot. It's got a great view of a lot of the map. Just be cautious about enemies taking it over and know when to leave. Also, just be cautious of location 2, because snipers there will be looking for you.

View from the spot: https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BacklotLocation5View.jpg

#6: This is in my opinion the best counter-sniping location in the game. You can completely CONTROL building 1 from across the map, likely without any having a clue, even with the kill cam. While shooting from here, you are either shooting through location 4 or through numerous poles and power-lines, so the bullets are very tough the track. You do not want claymores for this, the spot is somewhat hidden and claymores will just give it away.

Where it is: https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BacklotLocation6.jpg

VACANT: Vacant is a very small level, so not one every thinks to snipe here. Most people will whip out their SMG or shotgun classes, and run around the level. The one thing that redeems this level for sniping is it's exterior. It's fairly big, but it's wide open, so people can't jump from obstacle to obstacle as they approach you, which is a bonus.

Still, it's a little on the small side for a conventional sniper scope. I highly recommend you get a M40 with an ACOG for this level. The ACOG to help with close up shots and the M40 because it's got increased power with the ACOG. Finally, the area you will be sniping in is pretty wide-open, and you will be moving from spot to spot often, so claymores are not a necessity here. I'll still show the claymore locations if you'd prefer to have claymores, but don't feel guilty by grabbing frag x3 or bandolier instead.

The following is a link to the full size map with labels.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/VacantMap.jpg

Onto the spots:

#1: Here is my favorite location in Vacant. All you have to do is go prone at the end of the wallway on the left side- near the shelves and grass. Depending on how hard you want to be to see, you can actually go into the grass. Anyway, just go prone and keep your scopes, zoomed in, aimed at location 3. Whenever anyone peeps their head out that door, kill them.

Eventually people will start sprinting and trying to avoid your shots- this is why you need to keep the sights up. If you do it right, then no one is getting through that door alive.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/VacantLocation1View.jpg

#2: This spot has a great view of the whole outside area and is especially useful for taking out anyone near location 6. Postion yourself so you are shooting between the pole and the building, go prone, and you should do fairly well.  If you don't see a whole lot of people, you can always rush to location 1, or you can sneak through the containers to location 7 and you should find people to snipe.

Claymore Placement Pictures:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/VacantLocation2Claymore1.jpg (When the claymore goes off, the car explodes, killing the enemy. If you are using this spot and the car has already gone off, just hide the claymore behind the car and get them as they maneuver around. )

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/VacantLocation2View.jpg

#3: This is a great place to die and a horrible location to snipe. First, there is often a sniper/LMG user at location 1, waiting to pick you off. Second, people usually clump together in here, so it's a very popular spot to chuck grenades in or to run in with shotguns and martyrdom. If your team has control of this location, you likely have control of location 4 as well, I recommend you go there instead.

#4: If I spawn at location 3, I'll generally move over here to snipe. From this spot, you can snipe anyone within the warehouse, on the patio, and all the way out the location 7. Be sure to keep your sights zoomed in at the warehouse door, because people will try to rush in a crouch among the containers to get close to you. Since a lot of fighting goes on at position 3, which is behind you, I use my claymores to guard my back.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/VacantLocation4View.jpg

#5: This is another favorite of mine. It's as simple as shooting everyone that walks outside of the warehouse, but it really works wonders. Since no more than your head sticks out, and most people don't even look for enemies there, you can get a lot of kills here before someone stops you. With steady aim as your 3rd perk, no scoping is a viable option here, but I'd still recommend you aim down the sights.

Claymore Placement Pictures are not needed here, because I do not believe you need claymore here. If you are using this spot, your team more than likely has control of the outside. And since you are picking off everyone coming from the interior, you should be more or less safe.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/VacantLocation5View.jpg

#6/7: I always use these 2 locations as a pair, switching between them. By doing this, I can control the whole outside of Vacant and do it from a distance. Location 6 let's me see all the way to location 2, and location 7 let's me control the patio and warehouse. I will do these two as a pair, since they are both utilized as a pair.

KILLHOUSE: Killhouse is a very small level and a shotgunner's paradise. It usually has some snipers battling it out across the map, but there are always SMG and shotgun users that can easily get close enough to you for the kill. For that reason, I feel it is essential to have an ACOG on your sniper.

On the PC, they put at least 20 people into killhouse, so claymores are more or less useless. They will get destroyed by random frags and air strikes. When you have 20 people, you've got enough on the ground to keep enemies from getting close to you most of the time anyway.

On the consoles, there is less than 10 people, so claymores come in handy a lot more. You won't have the sheer wall of people on the ground that you would with PC, so people are bound to slip by- that's where you claymores come in. I will do claymore locations for this map, but only use them if you play on PS3 or XBOX. Disregard them if you are a PC player.

This site and google had no high resolution images of killhouse, so I went into a game, spectated, flew up high and took one myself. That is why the wood roofing is in the way.

The following is a link to the full-size map with labels.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/Killhouse.jpg

Onto the spots:

#1: This is my favorite spot in the map. It's tucked way into the back, so you sometimes avoid the brunt of the grenades and the enemy snipers have a harder time finding you. Because there's some wood in front of you, all you have to do is duck and you've got all but the head covered. Finally, you can get a good view of the majority of the level simply by strafing.

Claymore Placement Pictures:

#2: With this location, you are way out in the open, so you must be very careful about where you stand. The wall upstairs is useless and you can't get a very good angle from downstairs unless you stand, so you have to go prone a lot using this location. You will use the same claymores as location 1.

Just like wetwork, people will generally come from either the far left or far right, and rarely down the middle. You can be prepared for this by going prone on top and looking off to your left or right, ready to kill anyone who comes into you sights. Another option here is to crouch on the stairs and look through the planks of wood. Finally, you can crouch on the stairs a little higher up and aim to have just the tip of your head sticking out and pick off people as you please.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/KillhouseLocation2View4.jpg

#3: This location is very risky but rewarding. You have to climb a ladder in front of the whole map, so only attempt to get up here if the enemy team is being spawn-killed and they aren't likely to notice. Once you get up here, you can actually shoot through the floor-boards. The floor boards are uneven, so you can see through them and get a pretty good view of the map and get some easy kills thanks to your high angle.

When people realize you are up here, they will make you their first priority and start chucking grenades and firing onto your location. For this reason, it's generally best to either get as many kills as you can when you're up there, or do it in a mode where they don't have kill cams and be very discrete about it. I do not place claymores up here, because you want to get up that ladder as fast as you can. And if the enemy is going to the lengths of climbing the ladder to get to you, they've probably already killed you with a grenade.

CRASH: Crash is a level with a good balance. It has close range combat, sniper friendly distances, and everything in between. However, it also has a 3-story building which is very well known as a sniping spot. In a typical game, you generally have people sniping and counter-sniping for position 6, or the 3-story building. You will usually have rushers working their way down the alleyway between positions 1 and 2. Finally, you may have a little assault battle going on between positions 2 and 3. As you can see, there's quite a lot going on. You want to find spots that isolate you from people's crosshairs, but still give you a view of the enemies.

Onto the spots:

#1: This is my preferred spot on Crash. It seems like every-other game I use this spot I pull off a 15+ kill streak. From here, you have a great view of all of building 6, even the 1st and 2nd stories. You can see everything in front of 6. Finally, you've got a great view of the entire alleyway between you and location  2. It's tucked way in the corner of the map and the cover is great, so you don't have to worry about grenades or enemies with anything short of a sniper rifle.

#2: This is a horrible location to snipe from- don't do it. First, it's very open, so anyone that wants to kill you can. Second, it's pretty up close and in the middle of the map. This means anyone with an AK will be a serious challenge to out-gun. It also means anyone  can chuck an easy grenade up there. I'd only use this for counter-sniping against locations 4 and 5.

#3: This spot is even worse than #2. You do not get any view here except that of, location #2, which will be full of assault rifle users. Also, this building is very open inside. All someone needs to do to get a shot at you is to get into the room one the first floor, which is incredibly easy. It's very hard to place claymores to guard 3 entrances in such an open environment, but here's where I'd put them.

#4: Both on top of the building and below it are excellent counter-sniping locations for spot 6, which is where a lot of snipers go. At first glance it seems as though the roof gives NO cover and is simply suicide to go up there. That is not true. If you crouch behind the radiator or go prone behind the sandbags, you'll have a suitable amount of cover. Below the building just go prone on the corner and barely peek your head out. Since I only use this for counter-sniping at location 6, it generally means my team has control of location 5 and the road in-front of it. Because of this I do not place claymores here. I just come, get the sniper(s) killed and move on to another location.

#5: This building is generally tucked into it's nice little corner and forgotten about for the entire duration of the game. The action rarely centers around here, so there's no reason to come here for the most part, right? Yes and no. Every once in a while, the team that spawned on this side will be getting crushed and will pretty be getting spawn killed in this corner.

When/if this happens, this building works beautifully for picking off a great deal of enemies. Secondly, this is in my opinion a much better counter-sniping spot against location 6, because virtually no one knows about it. All you have to do is crouch in the back of the room, on the wall farthest from location 6.

#6: Everyone thinks this is such a great sniping spot because it's so high…and they're right. It has great views of the part of the map which gets the most action. You can get a lot of kills sniping up here. However, since it's so well known, many people are looking up here for people to snipe, so you must know where they like to snipe from and be faster.

Also, since it has an open roof, it's very susceptible to grenades and air strikes. Whenever an air strike is called on this map, run inside if you are up here- it's fairly likely the air strike was placed on you. I don't want to scare you from sniping here because it really is a great spot, just be a little more cautious because you are using a very high-profile location.

BOG: Bog is one of my favorite levels. However, I am also aware it is among many people's lists of most hated levels. Within literally the first 5 seconds of a match, you can see the other side where the enemies are spawning. I believe because of this many people automatically think "Oh, I can see the other side. It must be a small level. I'm gonna rush." They then proceed to either get clogged up in the grenade and suicide run festival of area A or they run out into the open and get sniped time after time.

People begin to hate Bog after a while and I feel it's because you can see the other side really easily. The problem is that they left two factors out of the equation when deciding to rush: the openness of the level, and the linear nature of the level. Because Bog is open, it's perfect for sniping and it's really difficult to jump from cover to cover, making a sniper's job much easier. Secondly, Bog is a very linear level in that there is pretty much one set way to go and not a whole lot of swapping sides or flanking goes on. This allows you the liberty of choosing another perk instead of claymores if you'd like.

The following is a link to the full-size map with labels.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BogLocations.jpg

Onto the spots:

#1: This is a pretty good spot for sniping. You get a great view of location 5 as well as the north part of the map. When sniping rushers on the north part of the map, go prone in the grass and you'll be tough to hit with a great view. When you are sniping location 5, you generally want to be crouching, leaning if you have PC and sticking as little as you can out. The bus is more or less directly behind this wall, so do not focus on the bus. You will be way out in the open and an easy target if you do so. If you go north all the way to the wall, the flaming barrel is another excellent object to hide behind.

#2: Location 2 is where you will want to go if the enemies are rushing you, or if you'd like a view of the bus. If the enemies are rushing from the north, you've got an unobstructed view and they will generally pass over you, in favor of location 1. If they are rushing from the south, they will likely not notice you and will pass right by you, allowing you to sneak in from behind. If you are taking out targets in the bus, just go prone at the edge of the container and snipe away.

#3: A lot of snipers like going prone here, especially to shoot into the bus, but it's just too close of range to snipe from. I only go up on the hill when my team is dominating and the enemy is all bunched into a corner. Only then do I consider it safe to go up, prone of course, and pick people off. If you do this, be careful that the enemies aren't pushing their way back to the middle, or spawning behind you.

Because you have control of the majority of the map while up here and the enemies are far away, I do not use claymores here. I use it while the situation lasts then fall back to the appropriate spot and continue sniping at a distance.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BogLocation3View1.jpg
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BogLocation3View2.jpg

#4: The bus is likely the most popular sniping location on the map, but it's also very well known and pretty close to the action. I only go up here when the enemy team is struggling. I'll usually sit here for a while, then either move up to location 3 or fall back to location 5 depending on how well the enemy is doing. Because it is a temporary location, I do not place claymores here. Besides, if the enemy is close enough to require claymores, they can EASILY see you and do it faster than they could walking in.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BogLocation4View1.jpg

#5: This is another excellent location. While you can only see very little of location 1 and the area 1, it's honestly all you need. A ton of people round the corner that you can see of 1, and some even snipe from there. If you are fast enough, you can get a lot of people rounding that corner.
Additionally, occasionally the enemies will win over control of area 1 and will literally come flooding in through the doorway directly in front of you. If you're quick enough, you can pick off all of them as they walk through the door into your scopes.

WETWORK: Wetwork is a level where you are forced to chose between long-range sniping or point blank close quarters combat. A lot of times these battles are isolated. As a sniper, your job is to 1st eliminate the enemy snipers, preferably convincing them to not snipe on this level, and then going for the run n' gunners.

It has two 'towers' on either end which you snipe from, and also two platforms relatively close to the middle of the map. This is a very thin, long ship, so side-swapping is almost non-existent. Because of this, I will not show claymore locations. In most games, you never switch sides, and if it happens, you will be fully aware of it. I recommend bandolier for this level. After the snipers are gone, you'll be taking shots at rushers and will have about a split second to hit them. Naturally, you're going to miss a lot of shots, so bandolier helps out here.

Below is a full-size map with labels.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/WetworkLocations-1.jpg

Onto the spots:
#1: This is in my opinion the best sniping spot on the map. Just hang pretty far back and pick off the enemy snipers. Once they're dead, move forward and aim for the rushers running below location 3. Since you are so high up, you can easily see above the crates without a lot of trouble.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/WetworkLocation1View4.jpg

#2: Keep in mind this spot services location 1's team. This location is wide-open to enemy snipers, so make sure they have all given up sniping before you come down here. You get a view that is slightly better than that of location 1 if you are taking out rushers. Go prone if you use this location, as you'll be considerably closer to the action.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/WetworkLocation2View1.jpg

#3: Keep in mind this spot services location 4's team. This should be treated in the same manner as location 2. Make sure the sniper's have given up and go prone as you pick people off. Will having roughly the same view as location 2, this spot has a considerably better view of rushers than location 4 does. You will likely find yourself here more often than location 2.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/WetworkLocation3View1.jpg

#4: Location 4 is a very low spot when compared to location 1. This doesn't affect your ability to kill snipers, but it does affect your ability to kill rushers. It is worth noting that the best counter-sniper spot here are the two walls on the exterior. The closer you get to these walls, the harder you are to see. Going inside will make you more visible.

Once the snipers are dead, you can go inside and try to hit rushers. The problem is the spot is very low and is blocked by containers. If the snipers have all given up on sniping, I highly recommend moving up to location 3.

SHIPMENT: Shipment is the smallest level in the game. It is full of shotgunners, SMG users, and grenades. You may be wondering why in the world would anyone in their right mind try to snipe here? Well, Shipment can be roughly broken up into 4 courtyards in each corner and a center X if you will. Between the courtyards is a respectable distance for shipment's size and it's too far away for shotguns to be effective.

In each courtyard, there are various obstacles, such as crates, or barrels. By hiding behind a barrel or crate, you are have only a head and shoulder stick out, which will give SMG users a challenge to hit you. With those two threats lessened and deal with, the only huge remaining threat are grenades. At each spot, the object you are hiding behind has a decent chance of stopping a grenade from killing you. Also, if one gets tossed behind the cover, I have an area you can run to in hopes of escaping it.

While by no means safe, this is about as safe as you can get on Shipment. Now, you must focus on getting kills with that sniper. First, get an ACOG on it and have steady aim as a perk. These are a must. I would also recommend the Barrett .50cal on this level if you don't already use it as your main sniper. The power is excellent, the low accuracy is irrelevant at these ranges, and the semi-auto capability will be a god-sent if someone gets really close to you.

Finally, I will show claymore locations on this level, but use your judgement when deciding whether or not to even bother with them. If your life is really short, then don't bother with the claymore and instead try to rack up kills before you die. If there's so many grenades that one is bound to blow it up, then don't place one. Other than that, it may be worth the time to place a claymore or two.

Onto the spots:

#1: This is my favorite shot on shipment. From one crouched position, you can see towards locations 2 and 4. Also, the car is pretty bulky, so it may stop grenades. Finally, it's pretty easy to retreat into the corner if needed.

STRIKE: Strike is a map with two main, conventional, sniping buildings. However, it also has a LOT of small, one man sniper locations or corners. Because it has two high-profile buildings and a lot of small little spots, a good deal of counter sniping occurs here and you never really know where they're going to shoot from. The good news though is, most snipers use stopping power, and those that don't use overkill, so whenever a UAV comes up, you can be fairly certain where the enemy snipers are.

Below is a full-size map with labels:

Onto the spots:
#1: This side of the map, along with locations 2 and 3 is generally ignored in favor of the area around locations 4,5, and 6. Because not a lot of people come down here, the odds of a grenade getting tossed into your window are slim. You have a great view of the courtyard below location 6 from here, as well as a small view of the area around location 5.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/StrikeLocation1View3.jpg

#2: This is a small counter sniping spot aimed at location 6. As long as they don't see you enter, I doubt they'll find you here until they look at the killcam. There are two locations in this general area which you can counter snipe one. One way to do it is to go prone behind a news stand. This is my preferred way as you are very hard to spot. The other way is to crouch behind a window that's got bars in it. It's hard to see through the bars, but you don't have any cover here.

I do not recommend using claymores here for two reasons. 1, you will be using this to take out snipers in location 6. Because of this, you do not want to stay here for too long. Also, since you are aiming towards 6, where the enemies are, only teammates will be behind you, so no one will sneak up on you.

#3: This is generally a pretty bad spot. Having views of the neglected areas of the map, you aren't going to find many targets here to snipe. If enemies do get close, the huge windows are a magnet for easy grenade kills. Avoid this spot if you can.

#4: This location is an excellent spot when taking out snipers in location 6. Your whole team will occasionally get stuck in this corner, but you can really push them back using this spot. The best place to be is prone in the grass cubicles. I do not recommend claymores here because it's impossible to be flanked here; everything is in front of you.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/StrikeLocation4View1.jpg

#5: This is a great sniping spot. It has an acceptable view of the street. You are difficult to spot from such a low angle, and if opened fire on, you have a huge dumpster to protect you. You are pretty far back and removed from the action as well, which is a bonus. I do not feel claymores are needed here. But, incase you are in danger of being flanked from location 4, I will show where you can place 1 claymore.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/StrikeLocation5View.jpg

#6: Similar to the construction site on Backlot, or the 3-story building on Crash, this is the spot every sniper aims to take control of. It's got a great view of every contested area of the map. The problem is, these areas are contested because of the spot. A lot of people spend their time on Strike trying to gain control of this spot. This mean a lot of grenades get thrown up here and a lot of people have their guns aimed at you.

When there isn't a battle going on right below the building, there's usually teams centered around it. One team usually has the courtyard in front of location 1, while the other team has control of the building. This building has a huge window over the courtyard, and that's like a highway for grenades. I only recommend this spot if the enemy is over by location 2 or by location 4. Otherwise disregard it as it will either have no view or be far too dangerous for use.

DOWNPOUR: Downpour is a small, rainy level where vision is restricted because of the rain. Because of this, and the fairly tall grass, many people whip out their ghost class. You want to have claymores ready lest one sneaks up on you. Also, there are generally two people sitting on the mounted guns at either side of the map, so you want to have spots which aren't in view of them. Another thing worth noting is it's tough to see through the rain without an ACOG or sniper scope, so you should keep that in mind and take advantage of it. In this level, the majority of the action is centered around location 2.

You will see a lot of people using ghillie suits, but trust me, the sniper never gets used.  Tongue
Finally, ACOG is optional here. I personally use it, but usually when I see other people snipe here they grab the standard scope.

Below is a link to the full-size map with labels.

Onto the spots:

#1: This is a pretty good spot. Go upstairs and all the way to the end, just to the right of the mounted gun. This will allow you a pretty good view of the area below location 2. It's not a huge view, but it's got enough traffic to grab a helicopter. I only place one claymore when using this spot. You tend to live quite a while, so you will want the second one handy if you ever need to advance to location 2. Also, if enemies are below you, you're as good as dead. The claymore is pretty much there to warn you of any ghosts trying to get to you.

#2: Regardless of which side you spawn on, if the enemy team is really struggling and has been pushed back a lot, this is where you should go. There's no cover here, so just go prone near the edge. Don't let people get really close to you because it's extremely easy to toss a grenade up here. Use it when the enemies are struggling, but abandon it when they make a comeback.

#3: I recommend going here instead of location 4. You are fairly close to the action, but you will be fine with an ACOG. Just pick off people coming around the wall and watch for a sniper in location 1. I use one claymore here to stop flankers. It's blocking a popular route for ghosts, so it may kill someone who may have been aiming at you.

CROSSFIRE: Crossfire is a map with a lot of long range shooting. It has 5 buildings people snipe in and 2 routes people rush up. There are two high profile buildings at either end of the street which are pretty much bent on destroying the sniping abilities of the other. On one side of the street are 3 buildings, each aimed mainly to take out unsuspecting rushers. My favorite buildings have views of the two high profile ones, but have the ability to ignore them in favor of rushers if needed.

#1: This is a pretty good spot; it‘s where I like to go when location 2, with it's smaller view, doesn‘t have enough targets to snipe. It's got great views of the whole bottom end of the street. You can pick off snipers and sit back while doing so, then just move forward a few feet and have a good view of the whole street. The problem is it has two entrances and everyone knows you're up there and anyone with a scope is going to be looking up there, waiting for you to peek you head out.

#2: This is my favorite spot when spawning on this side. While it doesn't have the full view of the street that location 1does, it usually has enough. This spot is better than location 1 in other regards though. First, it's not nearly as obvious or checked as much. Second, it's got only one way in. I personally like to snipe through the bars in the window, rather than exposing myself on the balcony.

#3: This is a pretty bad spot. It's dead centered in the middle of a rushing route, and often the action gets jumbled up around here. This means you're claymores will be destroyed constantly and you'll always have to worry about enemies coming up here. Besides, the view isn't that good. Don't use this spot.

#4: This is another good spot. While it seems open at first glance, you can fairly well covered simply by crouching near the wall. You can get a view of half of location 1 and a good majority of the rushers across the street. That's usually more than enough, but if you need to have a better view, then migrate over to location 5 or 6.

#5: This is the other high-profile building. NEVER GO UPSTAIRS IN THIS BUILDING. Since location 1, the enemy building, is above you, and since the upstairs has no cover, never go upstairs. You'll likely be dead before you can go prone. Where you want to be is downstairs, standing on the table. This gives you a great view of locations 1 and 2, while not too much is exposed.

#6: This is the final spot. A lot of people like to snipe behind this car. It's always exploded and is generally better cover than location 5, not to mention slightly less checked. You can do good with this spot, just be careful to kill anyone before they kill you. If you can see them, they can probably see you, too. I like to place one claymore while using this spot. The car lies on the corner of a huge chokepoint. If an enemy ever breaks through, I like to have a claymore to hopefully kill him or at least let me know he's coming.

CHINATOWN: Chinatown is a fairly small level, with many buildings, and tight spaces. It never requires very long ranged shooting, so I prefer to use the ACOG scope here. Ultimately, it's up to you and what you prefer, but I find the ACOG works best here. Most people here are packing SMGs or shotgungs, weaving their way in and out of buildings, killing any inhabitants. Because of this, I feel it's necessary to include claymores in your class. There are 3 mounted guns throughout the level. People like to jump on these from time to time, so I prefer spots that have the ability to take them out, but you can also ignore them if needed and use another window.

Onto the spots:

#1: This is my favorite spot. It has a view of both the enemy's mounted guns, and it has a view of two high-traffic roads. You can see the mounted gun in location 5 by looking through a stairwell. You can see the back exit of location 5, which enemies like to take. Finally, you can see location 7 from another room.

#2: This should only be used if you spawn on location 6 and 7's side. It's very tough to get to, especially with a sniper. It's really not worth the risk. It's got a great view, but it's a little too close to the enemies. This is where you should go if your team starts spawn killing the others. Otherwise, ignore this spot.

#3: This is another bad spot.  It has the same view as location 1, but you're looking out of larger windows and from a closer range. You're a much easier target here. Also, if a grenade is thrown in the room, you've got very little chance of escaping.

#4: This is a pretty terrible spot. You get a view of the enemies, an OK kinda view, the problem is, you have to run in front of the enemies to get there. If you don't die by the gunfire, you will be a grenade getting tossed into the window. Honestly, you're more likely to die trying to get here than get a kill while you're here. Do not use this spot.

#5: This is a pretty small spot. All you do here is hide behind the wall and kill the people in the window. You will be very hard to see and should have no trouble killing them I don't use claymores here since you should just kill them and then move elsewhere. You shouldn't stick around here too long.

#6: This spot is very similar to location 2. You should only use this if you spawn near locations 1, 2, and 3. It is too much trouble getting to it on normal circumstances, but it's where you should be if your team starts spawn-killing.

#7: When I spawn on this side, this is the place I like to snipe from. It's got a decent view of the enemies and you've got a mounted gun right there just incase. Grenades do get thrown into here a lot, but it's got a fridge you can hide behind.

AMBUSH: Ambush is a symmetrical map, with 4 well known sniping locations, with a few other less known spots. It also is a level with tons of glitches, but those spots aren't generally too good for sniping anyway because in Ambush‘s case, most of them involve you jumping across the streets for areas with mediocre cover and poor views.. With each side having two sniper spots, all of which are well known, you can get some pretty good sniper battles going on between them.

Each team usually has 2-4 people sniping, while everyone else is fighting down on the central street. If you're sniping, you want to first kill the enemy snipers, then grab the people in the streets. So, a good sniping spot here has good cover, views of the enemy's sniping spots, and also a clear view of the street.

Below is a link to the full-size map with labels.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/AmbushLocations.jpg

Onto the spots:

#1: This is a good sniping spot. It's tucked away into a fairly forgotten portion or the map, or at least forgotten compared to locations 3 and 5. Because it's sometimes ignored, an enemy may occasionally use this street to flank your teammates. He will generally not risk braving your claymores just to grab one kill, so he will usually ignore you and try to flank the bulk of your team. However, if you make your presence known, perhaps by firing at him or just shooting a bunch of random shots with a loud guns such as the .50cal, he may chuck a cooked grenade up to you then work on flanking. Other than that, it's a great spot. Get the enemy snipers in locations 5 and 6 dead first, then work on the rushers.

#2: I don't like this spot very much. It's a decent spot and you've got OK views, but there's always a spot with a better view. Besides,  you have to jump over a wall on the main street to get here which makes you a huge sniper target. It's just not worth the risk. You can get equal or better views without becoming an easy target. If you do want to use this spot, snipe through the wood on the higher building.

#3: This is a decent spot, but it's too well known. There's usually a couple snipers in location 5 waiting to pick you off. If you intend to use it, then hang back and crouch behind a broken wall, do not go up to the sand bags, even when prone. I only use this spot if we are destroying the enemy and they are being spawn killed. At this time, it is ok to move up to the sand bags, but still crouch when doing so. It is also worth noting that there is a stack of cars in front of the sand bags. It's possible to climb up these and reach you while avoiding your claymores. It doesn't happen often, but it's good to know.

#4: This spot works great if you are being spawn-killed. Use the car if it's blown up, if not, use the dumpster. Just go prone right next to the dumpster/car and happily pick off enemies charging down the street.  Cheesy
The dumpster/car will save you from a good deal of grenades. I do not use claymores here because it should be a temporary spot, besides, what good would it do?

#5: This is the equivalent of location 3. It's not recommended, but if you want to use it, it should be treated the same way, just hang behind the oil tank and pick off people at locations 3 then focus on people in the street. Move up to the lower wall in the front only if your team is spawn-killing the other.

#6: This is the ‘copy' of location 1, but I prefer this spot. It has better cover and you'll usually be sniping behind some containers, which will protect you from grenades. The only thing about this spot is you have to be able to tell the difference between locations 1 and 2 from this angle, since they look very similar. Location 1 is behind the power line pole while 2 is to the left of that, but I'll label it in the screenshot with location 1 being the blue circle and 2 being the yellow.

BROADCAST: Broadcast is very similar to Vacant in the fact that it's mostly indoors and a little bit of outdoor fighting. I personally feel this level is imbalanced as far as sniping goes. The marines, who spawn on the outside have an advantage, at least the snipers do. When I spawn inside, I'll usually either whip out my close range class, or just my pistol and work to have the teams swap sides. Once this happens, I will start sniping and make sure sides don't swap for the rest of the game.

I usually stick to the normal scope here, because you do have to make some long range shots to the head. You can go with an ACOG here if you feel comfortable at longer ranges; it's up to you. Since most people run around with a shotgun or sub machine gun, I prefer spots which are away from the action…and I think only one spot has that feature.

Below is a link to the full-size map with labels.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/BroadcastLocations-1.jpg

Onto the spots:
#1: This is my favorite spot. You are way away from the action, but you've got a great view. You are generally looking out of a small hole in the wall, which makes you VERY tough to see and tougher to hit. I usually don't die in this spot from snipers. They have to personally come over here and toss a grenade in before I'll die. This is where I recommend you go when sniping here.

#2: This is a fairly bad spot. The view is mediocre and you are pretty close to the action…close enough that people will try and likely succeed in killing you with their SMGs and Assault Rifles. It just doesn't compare to location 1, in view or safety.

#3: This is a decent spot. If you'll look at the map, I put a purple dot on the corner of the railing. You should stand on the railing here and take out snipers in location 1. Jump to see if any are going prone on the floor. After they're all dead, then move up to the broken wall and eventually/hopefully down the locations 1 and 2. I only place one claymore here and it's mainly to be sure we aren't going to get attacked from behind.

#4: This is another ok spot. It's got a good view of location 1 and you can move up for a great view of location 2. For location 1, I like to hide behind a wall (Shown in picture) and just peek my head out to pick people off. After they're all dead, you can move forward quite a ways and, from the 2nd story, kill anyone in location 2. The problem with this spot is it's usually a choke point and a lot of action happens here, which is bad for snipers. Like location 3, the single claymore is just to make sure I'm not being flanked from behind.

SHOWDOWN: Showdown is a very small level. It is wide open, and has no cover. Because of this accuracy falls way short of reaction time and rate of fire. You will want a semi-auto sniper here because you can react a lot faster and put more bullets down range. You will also want an ACOG because you need speed and reaction time, not precision. The main problem with sniping here is wherever you go, you are liable to be attacked from at least two different angles. The arena is too chaotic for snipers. No matter how good you are, you just can't react fast enough to deal with every angle you're going to be attacked from.

You'll be much more helpful to your team by hanging outside the arena, picking off people as they round the corner. Most people do things on this map. They either go inside the arena and jump into the chaos, or they do circles around the map, flanking the enemies, but rarely entering the arena. Because of the way the exterior is designed, the flankers or forced to go clockwise are the arena. Since you know where they're coming from, all you have to do is make use of what little cover there is and wait.

I do not use claymores here. Inside the courtyard, you are visible from so many directions that claymores won‘t make a difference. Outside on the perimeter, the enemies will much only come from one direction for the most part, so claymores are unnecessary. Because of this, I will not show claymores locations for this level. I recommend another perk such as Frag x3, or bandolier.

Below is a link to the full-size map with labels.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/ShowdownLocations.jpg

Onto the spots:
#1: This is a horrible spot. You have no cover and could be attacked from 10+ different angles. It's just too much real estate for a sniper to cover. Don't snipe here if you can help it.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/ShowdownLocation1View.jpg

#2: This is an OK spot. You can sit behind the baskets and pick people off. I have two problems with it, though. First, it's a little closer to the action, which is bad while sniping. Second, you have a view of a different area compared to location 3. In the area you're viewing, the enemies have cover as well. It's not bad overall, but I think location 3 is better.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/ShowdownLocation2View.jpg

#3: This is a pretty good spot. You hang back, pretty far from the enemies, and kill anyone who goes around the corner. I like to go prone on the upper level of the scaffolding and hide behind the bucket. You aren't in a very checked area, and the enemies have no cover to dash to once you open fire.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/ShowdownLocation3View.jpg

#4: This is also a good spot. Just hide in the dumpster and kill anyone who rounds the corner. It's a little more obvious than location 3, but again, you've got cover and they don't.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/ShowdownLocation4View.jpg

#5: Here you'll want to use the tractor as cover. It's a little closer to the action, but less obvious. The tractor works pretty well as cover if you crouch right beside it. Compared to location 4, you're closer to the action, but also in a less expected location.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/ShowdownLocation5View.jpg

CREEK: Creek is seen by many to be a sniper's paradise, just what they wanted. While others believe it's great, I personally believe it is the most un-balanced map in the game. One side has the distinct advantage of high ground and plentiful cover, while the other side has low ground and little cover. In a sniper heavy map, this causes problems and leads to the high ground side winning with scores like 1500-500. If you'll look, I gave one side all blue ratings, while the other had red and yellow. That's honestly how I feel .

I think they did a poor job balancing this map. If you spawn on the Spetsnaz side, you are likely to have a good score and even more likely to win. If you spawn on the S.A.S. side, you want to find a location out of the scopes of the many enemy snipers, but also something that has views of enemy rushers. Location 1 is the only place I know of that fits that criteria.

Enough ranting though. If you look at the map, you can notice that I circled large areas of grass, often not singling an exact area to go prone in. You are supposed to go prone somewhere within the confines of the circle, preferable behind a tree or near a rock and snipe away. There would be too many spots if I singled out exact areas set up in. Once you do find where you want to go prone, DO NOT MOVE. There are probably more snipers in Creek than anywhere else. People are scanning their scopes everywhere looking for enemies. If you move, you'll be easy to spot.

Finally, I do use claymores on this map, even though it is wide open. The vast majority of flankers cut through the tunnel and then get the snipers from behind. Since the tunnel is thin, it's a great place to plant a claymore or two. Except for arguably location 5, this is the only place where claymores are going to do anything. But, claymores will do more in the tunnel than they will at the location 5 areas. For these reasons, I will only show the claymores for the tunnel.

S.A.S. Claymore Placement:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CreekSASClaymores.jpg

Onto the spots:

#1: This is where I like to go when I spawn on the S.A.S. side. You've got little hope of winning sniper-to-sniper battles since the enemies have the high ground, so you might as well pick off any rushers. This spot is great for that because the rocks block of the high ground where the snipers are, but you've got an excellent view of the riverbed, which rushers like to frequent. You are wide open when trying to reach this spot, so I prefer to toss a smoke grenade before getting into position. You have to sprint to get up to the spot.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CreekLocation1View.jpg

#2: A lot of people like to go prone up on this ridge and snipe. It's quite a bad spot though. They've got high ground of the same elevation, but twice as much. The enemies also have a roof overlooking it all. If you go up here, you can bet an enemy sniper has his scope on you. If you do use it, go prone as far back as you can and just hope they don't have a guy on the roof who sees you.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CreekLocation2View.jpg

#3: In addition to being the lowest point on the map, this area also has very little cover. Many snipers are looking here for people to snipe. No matter which side you're on, if you go down here, don't expect to live long.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CreekLocation3View1.jpg

#4: A great spot. You can take out some snipers at location 2, and you've got a perfect view of the area around location 1. Just go prone in the grass, don't move, and happily snipe away.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CreekLocation4View.jpg

#5: This is another great spot. You can snipe from either the second story or the roof. I prefer the roof- here's why. The second story is occasionally checked by snipers, and you honestly don't have a stunning view. Your view is comprised of a sliver you look through toward location 3. The roof has a huge overhead view of all of 3, and you can see through the brush to location 2.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CreekLocation5View1.jpg
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CreekLocation5View2.jpg

#6: Another great counter-sniping spot. You've got a clear view to location 1. You can see them, but they almost certainly don't see you. Don't snipe the whole game here, since the view is limited to location 1, but hop down from time to time and kill the sniper. Any stance is fine here, walk sideways up the mountain where the picture specifies, then zoom in, looking for dead grass. That's where the enemy will be. The blue is where to stand, the red is the gap you should look through.

BLOC: Bloc is another level, like Creek and Overgrown, where a bunch of people decide they want to snipe. However, it is also like Wetwork in the fact that you cannot avoid sniper to sniper confrontations. I gave the spots that are either open to rushers or have poor views yellow and red ratings. I'd also like to point out that locations 6 and 7 are on the lower level, while locations 3 and 4 are upstairs. I'll show you the best spots and how to effectively use them, but at the end of the day, success in Bloc is about your skills as a sniper, not your unbeatable spot.

Onto the spots:
#1: This is an OK spot. The idea here is to pick off anyone rushing in front of locations 4 and 5, while occasionally stealing a look at location 8. The main drawback here is you are VERY vulnerable to rushers coming from behind and grenades from the front. You can stay here a little while, but don't snipe here the whole game. When using this spot, stand in the back. That way, you can have very little of your head visible and you are not a target for snipers.

#2: These next four locations are pretty much the same, except for claymore locations. What I say for this one also applies to the next 3 locations. These spots are pretty good for sniper vs. sniper. You are mainly looking at the building directly across from you, so you want to be as hard to see as possible for them to have a good chance of winning. As you can see, in each spot, there is a big room in front, and a hallway in back, which has it's entrances circled in green.

You want to crouch in the back hallway, and look out those doorways while sniping. If you move up to the front room, you'll be easier to see and kill.

#3: This is very similar to location 2 and should be treated the same way.

#4: This is very similar to location 2 and should be treated the same way. This spot has a big hole in the ground behind a doorway. DO NOT SNIPE NEXT TO THIS HOLE or you will be killed by rushers before they even reach your claymores.

#6: This is another OK spot. Just go right up to the front and crouch. You will be very tough to see through the metal, especially if you don't move. The downside to this spot is you've got a pretty bad view, primarily thanks to the low angle.

#8: This is a pretty bad spot. The view is decent, but you are wide open to attack. It's very easy to flank you from behind, and, when standing on the crate, a lot of your body sticks out, which makes you an easy, obvious target for enemy snipers.

#9: This is another OK spot. You just sit on the stairwell and kill anyone leaving the building and moving in front of location 8. If any get past you, however, you are an easy target for their grenades.

https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/CountdownLocation4View.jpg

COUNTDOWN: Countdown is a very large level, with no set buildings that are decent enough for sniping. The core of the level is a maze, with near infinite paths you can take and enemies around every corner. Around the exterior, are huge open areas and long lines of sight. You best bet for sniping on Countdown is going to be on the perimeter of the level, looking not only into the center, but along the edges as well.

Since it is either open field, or a maze of sorts with 10 different ways to go, claymores aren't going to do anything, so I won't be showing claymore locations.

Onto the spots:
#1: This is where you should be spending the majority of your time while sniping. You should back up to the wall, and strafe left and right, facing the level, and kill anyone you see. Most of the people you are going to see while be right outside the tin buildings, so concentrate on those areas most. Enemies will occasionally jump out from cover, and venture somewhere in location 1. Since it's a large spot, there's bound to be friendlies. You best bet is going to be running to them, and blending in with the crowd.

There are elevated missile silos here, and you want to be crouching behind or going prone on top of those while sniping. But also be aware that rushers like to weave through these silos because it allows them to get very close to snipers before they are noticed.

#2: This is a situational spot. Since it's wide open, you don't want to be using it when any enemies are near. However, it's one of the few high spots in the map, so it provides an excellent view into the opposing team's tin buildings. Only use this spot if the enemies are being trapped in the buildings, but as soon as they get anywhere near you, you'll want to jump off this truck.

View from the spot:

#3: This should be used the same way as location 2. The reason this spot is rated blue and the others are rated situational is because this spot is a whole lot higher and has a much better view of the tin buildings. It's got a great view of the interior of the level as well, but it's got no cover, so I only recommend you use it when the enemy team is trapped in the tin buildings across from you.

#4: Use it in the same manner as locations 2 and 3.

DISTRICT: District is a level with very tight corners, except for the streets. Throughout most of the map, you can be flanked from multiple directions, which is bad news for snipers. There are two corners of the map, on the streets, which are pretty open for District's standards, so it's tougher to sneak up on whoever is there. Both of these spots have more or less two ways to get to them, so you put claymores to guard one path, while you snipe down the other. In a District match, you generally sit in the same spot the whole game and snipe anyone who comes close to you. Even though the majority of the level is close quarters fighting, the streets are long range combat, so I prefer a regular scope, but ACOG is a viable option here.

Onto the spots:
#1: This is a good spot. Just crouch behind the wall, and pick off anyone who is near location 2. I usually place claymores off to my right, and then pay full attention to enemy snipers near location 2. I like to blow up this car, so I have something to prone beside incase enemies come from my right, trying to flank me.

#2: This is another good spot. I like to blow up a car, so I've got cover I can hide behind while sniping people at location1. One claymore guards my back from flankers, while the other keeps people from appearing right in front of me. When using this spot, the majority of your attention will be focused on location 1 and anyone rushing up the alley, while occasionally checking behind you to see if the enemies are gathering there. When looking for people near location 1, you should crouch behind the car and use it as cover.

PIPELINE: Pipeline is a large, semi-symmetrical level. It has two big, tin buildings, and the majority of the fighting happens between them, although few people brave the open street between them. A good sniping spot on this level, will either have views of one of the buildings, or it will have an excellent view of enemies navigating behind these buildings. Since a good amount of the action is within range of an AK-47 or MP5,  cover is a very valuable asset and is essential in the spots. Finally, although some of the fighting is over close ranges, at least close for sniper standards, there is the need to make an occasional long range shot, so I do not recommend the ACOG here.

Onto the spots:
#1: This spot has an excellent view of pretty much the whole level. It is also the highest spot on the map. For these reasons, it's a pretty desirable place, and a lot of action is focused around taking this spot. I don't want to discourage you from using this spot, because you can do very well up here, but keep in mind there are likely to be enemies fighting below you, so be careful and try not to make yourself too known. When using this spot, you should always stay within the boundaries of the building, never venturing onto the roof. You've got exceptional cover inside, but none out on the roof. Finally, keep in mind that this location has no roof, so you are prone to air strikes and, being a well-known sniper area, there is a good chance one may be dropped on you.

#2: This is a good spot. Just sit inside the building and kill anyone between you an location 5, or anyone in front of location 3. While the cover isn't too great…you probably have your chest sticking out…the enemies don't have any cover, so you've got the upper hand. The ample windows in this spot let you cover a large area, but they work against you if any enemies get too close…

#3: A pretty poor location. While at first it may seem wonderful, in practice it doesn't work too well. It's way too well known, and everyone likes to check for snipers there. Even though it's got grass and you've got a ghillie suit, someone is bound to find you, and with no cover, you'll be dead as soon as you're spotted. Even if you go prone, you aren't fooling a whole lot of people. The only thing this spot has a view of is location 6 and the street in front of it., both of which don't get a lot of traffic. Avoid this spot if you can; you won't do well here. I do not use claymores here because it is too open for them to make a difference.

View from the spot:
https://www.cod4central.com/images/guides/snipinglocations/PipelineLocation3View.jpg

#4: This is an okay spot. It's got a good view of the ground level in location 1, and a small view of the upper story where the snipers are. From upstairs at location 1, your cover isn't the best. Also, it's a little closer to the action than most snipers are comfortable with, so that's why it only got a yellow rating.

#5: This is a bad location, although snipers will occasionally snipe here. You have no cover, especially from enemies on the roof, and it's all too easy for a rusher to weave his way through the train cars and get you from behind. I only use one claymore here to guard my back.

#6: This is another poor location. It is very difficult to see through the many square windows, so you are constantly moving to get a better view. Because of all this movement, you are fairly easy to spot. Also, like I've said before, the main street doesn't get a lot of traffic, so there's not a lot of people visible to snipe. Finally, it's pretty easy to get into your building, and from there they can look up and shoot you through the metal floor.
