Activision has officially confirmed that a fifth installment in the Call of Duty series is on the way - revealing that it'll be set in "a new military theatre". What this essentially means is that we won't be revisiting anywhere we've been already in the series. So not in the Middle East or Russia or Continental Europe.

Like COD4 it'll be released for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and DS. And this time round there will be PS2 and Wii versions, too.

The news came in a conference call after Activision published its latest financial results, as reported by Gamespot. CEO Mike Griffith told listeners, "We'll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theatre, to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise."

The publisher has yet to give a release date for Call of Duty 5, or confirm whether Infinity Ward or Treyarch are developing. But seeing as the last COD game IW made sold over 7 million copies worldwide to date, it seems likely Activision have taken on board the success of CoD4.

So a bit of hope. It still seems likely that it'll be a Pacific WWII shooter, though it's still yet to be confirmed, but IW could be given the task over Treyarch.

Lots of updates on the way! I can't get them all done in one day because it's a lot of work and content, but check back soon...lots of cool stuff is going to be added, people have submitted a few more guides and I will be adding those, and all the rest of the weapons sections, maps sections and then all the other content I have planned.

The numbers are even crazier when you combine them with the amount of people that also play on the Playstation 3 and PC.

Producer Mark Rubin said.
"That's just 360. There's even more on the other platforms [PS3 and PC], but we just don't have the same numbering system. Overall, even without the other consoles, we are beating the competition. PS3 numbers are monstrously huge. No other game has come close, either online current, or total unique users in a day."

Call of Duty has sold over 7 million units so far. Rubin refused to confirm the percentage of online users, but he admitted it had exceeded expectations.

"I don't have an exact number for you, but it turns out to be a startling number of people. For a lot this is there first time playing a multiplayer game on console or PC. We're getting really high numbers."

"We've created a lot of heartache for a lot of companies who go up against it. I think Halo's website says they get something around 845,000 to a million [per day]."

Wow.. just wow. And the game is still fairly new, I imagine in the next year, the numbers will grow even more. There just isn't any competition for CoD4 out there, at all. Halo 3? No. RSV2? Nope. Nothing I think.  Like I mentioned earlier, CoD4 is the new CS of FPSs.

Post the guides that you are working on here/finished, it is ok to still make a guide on one that has been done, because you never know what someone might have missed or you have some more input on the subject.

Another thing that might help to add to your guide is the challanges that go along with that weapon.

I did one on the AK-47u.

Note from X: Like Karl mentioned, it is ok to make a guide for a section we already have because it can be combined and added to make the current guide even more helpful.

So the site has been up for a few months, we now have an established community with lots of content on the main site, as well as lots of posts on our forums. But now it's time to move forward and make this site even better.

The guides I am looking to add are guides for anything in CoD4, whatever you want. Can be in text format, no need for any images or HTML, I will add it myself. Including individual weapon guides, for example a whole section dedicated to just one weapon. If you would like to help CoD4Central, this is the best way. This site is pretty large, but it can be huge with your help. I will put up any and all guides that get submitted after reviewing them with of course full credit to the person that submitted them, so your name or username will be on the site as recognition of your service to the site. You can even write a small guide on a specific thing, and it will be posted. Let's make this site as in-depth as it can be so it can help everyone own in those clan matches and in regular games!

I have been working a lot on this site, but still, I am just one person, so I cannot write tons of guides for everything all the time. I have written a lot for this site, but I think that it needs more in terms of in depth guides about specific weapons, maps, even perks!

So if you can, please take a break for a second from CoD4, and help us out by writing your own guide for anything you want on the site, it would REALLY help the site and me out!

Currently I would say the most wanted things would be specific guides for a map of your choice, or a weapon of your choice. I myself will also be working on guides, like currently I am working on a fairly large M4 Carbine guide. The guide will include the best ways of using the M4, the best perks and attachments and a review of each and how it works with the gun. Also other random tips for the M4 will all be included, like which maps are best to use the M4 on, and how to be most effective with it.

Like I mentioned the site is large, but it can be a lot more in-depth with your help.

My to do list for this site is still pretty big, mod database, cod4 gallery, CoD4 Class DB (under construction), specific weapon guides, map guides, and a lot more on the way. With your help, it will be even faster.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Also please remember these guides don't have to be huge, just informative.

Also I wanted to note our forums have been growing quickly as of late, with 5+ new users registering daily, and over 50+ posts being posted a day as well. It's been confirmed by IW that the PS3 map-pack, with the additional 4 maps created since release of CoD4 will be released in the US on April 24, followed by a European release May 1.

It seems the time difference is because the Maps took slightly longer to get through SCEE certification than SCEA.

The PC Release is probably going to be around the same sort of time.

It has quietly been revealed that the European release date has been pushed back a further 3 days to May 4. This means European PS3 owners will get their hands on the Newest maps a significant amount of time after their North American counterparts. Oh dear IW....

Update
Against information given out by both Sony and Infinity Ward, the European Map pack went ahead and released today, April 24th, alongside PSN's weekly update. They seem to have sorted out whatever was wrong over at SCEE.

The map-pack is going at £6.99 / €EUR 9.99. A little steep some might say, but it's here nevertheless.

We can assume that the U.S. will receive their respective map pack ready for download when the next North American PSN update comes through.

Xbox Live is hosting another Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare LIVE fire weekend just like at the start of the game.

It will be going on starting Friday, April 18th through Sunday, April 20th.

What about the PC and PS3?
Now the PC and PS3 owners might be asking "Where is ours?!" and your question has been answered.

Acording to Kotaku

"Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has posted on his PR blog that the PS3 map pack should be ready "approximately" 21 days after the 360 pack's release (ie April 24). PC users, you'll have to make do with this:

Right now plans for the PC version are unannounced but we are working to bring PC users the same content in the future, however logistics are being worked out on how to make that happen."

So hopefully very soon we will see map packs for the PC and Playstation 3 versions of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

I've been working on a lot of different sections...and wow, it's really a lot of work.

At first I thought it would be a bit easier, since the game is pretty straight forward...but I was wrong. This game is as deep as any huge RPG. There are just so many combinations of weapons, perks, strategies, etc, which also inspire ideas for other sections on the site. As well as updating the current sections (such as weapons with their own pages and more strategies/stats. And a new Class Database Section)

I have started many of these and I will be working on them together with the new maps section.

This site is still nothing compared to what it will be when I am done.

If you think it's good now, you will like what I have planned for the future.
